7 April 2021: On-line “tour”
Join us for a special opportunity to meet members from each of our teams, who are engaged in children’s literacy work in the slums where they live, in India, Indonesia and Philippines. Each of our teams are engaged in teaching children to read, and other basic education, and they decided to get together to tell stories.

What teams are doing …
Each team is involved in literacy and education in different ways, according to the opportunities and resources available. Our Indonesian team has been operating a small school in their neighbourhood for quite a few years now, with a class of preschoolers and an after-school class for older children. You can read about the school through the story of one student, beginning two years ago, continuing last year, and a recent update on the impacts of the pandemic on education for the poor.
In India our team have been using the locally created Global Dream literacy method and materials since 2014. It involves short daily stints of one-to-one teaching with children, prompting them with questions and pictures to help them learn to recognise letters and words. In Philippines, the lockdown has been especially strict for children and schools have been closed for a year, with classes only offered online. Recently it was announced this will continue for another year. Children in poor families, with limited access to smart-phones, computers and internet, are especially disadvantaged. In response, some of the team have recently begun literacy work in their immediate neighbourhood.
