Leadership changes are afoot in Servants as Dr Dorothy Mathieson steps down this month from her role as International Coordinator after three years of faithful service. A new leadership team of three will take over the international leadership role and Mr Kristin Jack, in the newly created role of Asia Coordinator, is the first appointment in the tripartite leadership team. The other two positions, yet to be announced, are International Coordinator and Sending Teams Coordinator.

The changes come in the wake of prayerful discussions held at the Servants Forum and International Leadership meetings in Manila in October this year.

Kristin Jack, as the newly appointed Asia Coordinator, will oversee the Asia teams (Cambodia, India, Philippines) and coordinate pastoral care and training for these teams living amongst the urban poor. He will also be responsible for overseeing new Asia-based sending teams such as the new team emerging in the Philippines to send out Filipino missionaries to the urban poor in other parts of Asia, and pioneering new teams to the urban poor in places such as Yangon, Myanmar.

He says, “We in Servants are already doing some of the most innovative and thoughtful ministry that can be found anywhere among the poor. However, there is much that could be even more effective with even more attention to strategy, training and with more resources. In all our contexts – NZ, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, Nth America, Cambodia, India and the Philippines – we have the potential to catalyze people movements and prayer movements that will change peoples lives forever. When I think of all the potential we have in our mission (not to mention what we’ve already accomplished), and in our workers (in you and me!!) it makes my spine tingle!”

Kristin Jack will continue to be based in Cambodia where he has more than ten years experience living amongst the urban poor along with his wife Susan and two children, Kaleb and Emma. Kristin previously served as Cambodian Team Leader from 1994 to 2003.

[The Jack family are featured in a moving New Zealand television documentary, “Extreme Close-up”, available on CD from any Servants home office or by email: [email protected].]
