Scott Bessenecker, Servants Elder and leader of Global Engagement & Justice at InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, warmly invites you to explore Franciscan spirituality through five centering walks.

Walk. Love. Rebuild.

Even where there are deepening divisions, love is possible. Even when there is suffering, joy is possible. Even in the midst of brokenness, rebuilding is possible. A simple, singing monk from the 13th century just might be able to teach us what is still possible—for us, today.

You’re invited to…

Learn how Francis’ life story included SUFFERING, both chosen and unchosen, and yet embodied a deep JOY in his preaching and life.

Discover how after hearing the call to “rebuild my church,” Francis sold his possessions to live a life of simplicity and POVERTY finding a new kind of ABUNDANCE.

Follow Clare in her monastic calling as she cultivated a rich inner life with Jesus, through rhythms of CONTEMPLATION within COMMUNITY.

Journey with Francis as he sought to MAKE PEACE between enemies and between people and creation.

Respond to God’s call to Francis’ to “REBUILD MY CHURCH” which was a call to live a life of relentless love that emulates Jesus in a time when church was entangled with empire.

The core of this “via Divina” is a five-walk guided pilgrimage, supported by accompanying resources and online gatherings. The experience begins with an online orientation on May 13, to give an intro to the history, themes, & spiritual practices that will guide our journey.

Times in USA: 8am Hawaii / 11am Pacific / 1pm Central / 2pm Eastern. For your timezone, check here. The sessions will be recorded, and available to watch later, if this time isn’t convenient for you. (For example, in Asia and Australia, this time is when you’d prefer to be asleep, very early on May 14.)

This will be followed by weekly live webinars, covering various Franciscan themes. The mini-pilgrimage wraps up with a final celebration on June 13, to celebrate the journey together and discern next steps.
