un certainty (a poem)

un certainty

Life is a blur of our own worries and others’ grief

– A life of sickness and strife, suddenly too brief –

The uncertainty of visas, mocked by the certainty of death,

From court to home to funeral to office – out of breath.

Oh breathe on me Spirit of God, resuscitating life-fire

Sustain my bones-heart-mind, through misery’s mire

Of tears from heaven, damp inside and all around:

Muddy alleys, muddy mind, seek solace where it’s found.

In You I shelter from this torment,

In You I will hide, rage, lament,

I surrender my pretence to Your gaze of grace,

Deliverance to bear Your yoke in Your embrace.
