Monsoon in Asia

Praise God for rain!

The monsoon has arrived across Asia, and the rains have brought blessed relief from the heat-wave conditions in many places during May and June.

Monsoon also brings the possibility of floods, which always impact the poor more than others – often their homes are flimsy and built on flood prone land, and their income relies on outdoor work.

Teams in Asia

Cambodia
  • Pray for the Bryce family (previously with Servants) who have just left Cambodia permanently, after 18 years of service there. Pray for their adjustment to life back in Australia, and for God’s continued blessing for the many friends and ministry involvements they leave behind.
  • We (Eunice, Carol and Myra) are thankful for open opportunities to use our skills to serve the Khmer people and for deepening relationships.
  • pray for health and strength for Carol as she travels to the Philippines to provide support to her sister. Her brother is confined at the hospital and has limited mobility. Please pray that he can undergo a needed procedure soon. Her mother was recently diagnosed with a heart ailment and needs care also.
  • The director of an elderly home has given Carol the task to make a one day a week program of activities for the elderly. Pray for Sopheap as she presents and start to implement this program while Carol is away.
India
  • pray for the final steps to be completed quickly so that Abdullah would finally be released on bail after being in jail for almost 2 years (without a conviction).
  • that an inter-faith dialogue planned for Sat 20th July would go well and increase understanding on all sides
  • for Prem (mouth cancer) to eat well and feel better
  • for resolution of conflicts within the family of some of our teachers
  • praise God for a good time of bonding & discussion at the recent retreat for key staff at the NGO where Yusuf* works
  • pray for a good start in marriage for Aliya* and Anas*, and for adjusting to new work roles starting in July
  • pray for success in identifying new TB patients and increasing community awareness, through extra activities in the coming month
Indonesia
  • Give thanks that Anita’s book ‘Beyond Our Walls‘ has just been published in Bahasa Indonesia. Please pray that it would get into the right hands and inspire many Indonesian Christians to serve compassionately.
  • House of Hope is on break for a month. Pray that this would be a restful time for the teachers and students. Pray especially for the 29 kids starting first grade and the 40 new kindergartners who will start July 22nd.
  • Our three interns finished their five weeks with us. It was a joy to have them with our team and we are sad to see them go. Pray for them as they have one more year of university and are discerning about next steps after graduation.
  • Please pray for the prenatal group and the health of the mamas and growing babies.
Philippines
  • Praise God for Rochelle, a young woman who had a very serious complication of TB and needed an emergency intervention last month. But none of the public hospital had space to accommodate her. Eventually she was admitted to a private clinic and at the last moment her life was saved. But the family ended up with an enormous private bill. Another case of gross injustice. At least she was able to leave the hospital. We simply rejoice that Rochelle survived .
  • from Patrick Indlekofer: End of May we had our staff retreat at Streetbelievers. One of our former beneficiaries “Malvin” came also along. We were exited to hear that after having found a home to live and also a job, he now wanted to make a firm decision for Jesus. I felt very thankful to have been part of Malvin’s baptism and believe that the heavens celebrated with us for the life of Malvin that day. Besides our small hands and the little help we could provide for Malvin through our ministry, God is journeying further with him and the Good News goes on.’
  • Manilyn Tanega: Pray for Mani journeying through a dark part of her life, feeling the difficulties around her and with many confusions and questions about God. But she also feels that God never gets tired of showing her hope. The stories of people in the community also give her hope to keep going.
  • Pray for Tim as he juggles newly-wed life, study, ministry and some financial stress. Praise God that his wife Abby has passed her exam to register as a nurse in USA.
  • there are several youth and family camps coming up at the Lilok retreat farm. May these times draw many people closer to Jesus and into a trusting relationship with God.

Answered Prayers

Thank you for praying for our teams and their neighbours and wider concerns. Rejoice with us that our prayers are being answered …

  • India: TB patients Mariyam, Nafrin, and Shivani are all on their treatment and starting to feel better; praise God that Mariyam is much better very quickly, and that Shivani has started to gain weight
  • India: Anas* and Aliya’s* wedding in Germany was a wonderful occasion, and now they are enjoying their honeymoon in Scandinavia (they plan to remain in Germany for one year before joining the India team)
  • Philippines: at the Sakahang Lilok retreat farm, the rainwater reserves ran out exactly two days before it started raining. That was awe-inspiring.
