The sense that God’s Spirit was among us was real and powerful at this last Servants Forum in Manila. We felt it in the inspiring stories that emerged as we saw and heard of the many ministries that Servants Manila has birthed. We were moved by the testimonies of the Onesimo youth, once living on the streets, now living for Jesus. We were warmed by the outstanding creativity (and success!) of the Kamay Krafts co-operative; and especially by the maturity and faith of the many Filipino urban poor church leaders who have emerged.

God has raised up in each of our fields men and women from among the urban poor who are very gifted and have powerful ministries among their own communities.

Some of these co-workers – for example Pastors Efren and Becky Roxas in Manila – are now sensing a call to go out cross-culturally to communities even poorer and less evangelised than their own.

Efren and Becky will be making visits to both Bangkok and Phnom Penh in 2005 as they seek to clearly discern Christ’s call on their lives. This represents an amazing step forward and opportunity for Servants: but also a challenge!

A network of Filipino church leaders and friends has formed with the express purpose of supporting Efren and Becky in their calling. There is the real possibility of this team developing into ‘Servants Philippines’ – a sending base to send out Filipino missionaries cross culturally to other urban poor communities in Asia!

Please join with us in praying for this team and for its development. Please pray for Efren and Becky and their journey, and for Servants as it looks at how best to support them in this.
