How do we begin to bring God’s healing to this broken nation, just emerging from a 30-year nightmare of war and communist dictatorship? First, we do what Jesus did – leave our comfort zones and join the poor in their urban slums and squatter areas. Servants have been in Cambodia for over a decade doing just that. Twelve years ago, God called together a team of people from various countries who all shared a common vision – to serve Cambodia’s urban poor.

That vision resulted in the birth of TASK, a group of Cambodian Christians dedicated to serving their poor neighbours. Their ministry is now bringing God’s love into the homes of literally hundreds of Cambodian families struggling with disability, poverty, AIDS, orphanhood and malnutrition…

Now we sense that God is about to do it again…

In mid-2006, a new team will arrive in Cambodia to build on what has already been established and possibly to pioneer new directions for ministry. This time they won’t be starting from scratch. The team will benefit from the combined wisdom and experience of established team members (who are continuing to work alongside TASK), as well as our friends at TASK.

Together, the new team will initially undergo in-depth language and Khmer culture study as well as the mentoring and formation process offered to all new Servants workers in their first year on the field.

During that first year, we will also discern together the new areas of ministry God may be leading us into. These may include helping develop a new project reaching young drug users, expanding the ministry of Project HALO amongst hundreds of children orphaned by AIDS, researching possibilities for addressing alcohol and gambling addiction, or simply working alongside an established TASK project.

The new team will be limited to between 5 and 8 people, willing to invest a minimum of 2 years building God’s kingdom in Cambodia.
